Research: Building Cultures of Constructive Dialogue

Drawing on research across more than 100 colleges and interviews with 20 campus leaders, this report by Constructive Dialogue Institute examines how institutions are successfully building cultures where difficult conversations can actually happen. One finding stood out to me: leadership buy-in is not just helpful, but foundational. When presidential and senior leadership actively model engaging across difference, that message pervades and persists as culture. When it doesn’t come from the top, even well-designed programs struggle to take hold.
